A Meaningful Topping Off Celebration
Construction on SAFEchild’s new building got under way in January 2023. On Wednesday, February 1, SAFEchild staff and board members, Champion Our Children leaders, and representatives from Williams Realty & Building, architectural firm Gensler, campaign consultants moss + ross and Heritage Capital Partners gathered on a drizzly afternoon last week to sign the final steel beam to be placed on the new structure.
Once it is placed and the building is constructed, the signed beam will become an invisible yet meaningful reminder of the thousands of staff and board members, volunteers, donors, and corporate and community partners over the last 30 years who have dedicated themselves to protecting children and empowering families in our community.

Groundbreaking Ceremony
On October 18, 2022, about 200 SAFEchild staff members, supporters and community partners gathered to celebrate the start of a new era for SAFEchild – the launch of a new, greatly expanded home.
Speakers included: North Carolina First Lady Kristin Cooper; Chief Estella Patterson of the Raleigh Police Department; Sig Hutchinson, then-chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners; Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert; Tom Cavender, WakeMed’s vice president of facilities and construction; Mary Brent Wright and Jennie Hayman, co-chairs of the Champion Our Children campaign; and Cristin DeRonja, SAFEchild executive director.
