Ribbon Cutting Celebration

On October 26, 2023, under a beautifully blue fall sky, about 200 SAFEchild supporters, local elected leaders, community partners and staff members gathered to celebrate the official opening of SAFEchild’s new 20,000-square-foot home at 2841 Kidd Road in Raleigh.

Speakers included: Susan Evans, vice chair, Wake County Board of Commissioners; Karen Chilton, MD, senior vice president & chief quality officer, WakeMed Health and Hospitals; Heather Ashe, SAFEchild’s board president; Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert; and Cristin DeRonja, SAFEchild executive director.

Also attending were: Champion Our Children honorary chairs Annette and Fred Anderson and Brenda and Ron Gibson; Honorary Committee members Janet Chesson and Carole Wilson; Steering Committee co-chairs Jennie Hayman and Mary Brent Wright; and many members of the Steering Committee.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

On October 18, 2022, about 200 SAFEchild staff members, supporters and community partners gathered to celebrate the start of a new era for SAFEchild – the launch of a new, greatly expanded home.

Speakers included: North Carolina First Lady Kristin Cooper; Chief Estella Patterson of the Raleigh Police Department; Sig Hutchinson, then-chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners; Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert; Tom Cavender, WakeMed’s vice president of facilities and construction; Mary Brent Wright and Jennie Hayman, co-chairs of the Champion Our Children campaign; and Cristin DeRonja, SAFEchild executive director.
